A FAMILY CAR THAT INSPIRED CARL F. BUCHERER’S WATCHMAKERS

The Carl F. Bucherer limited-edition Heritage BiCompax Annual Lucerne was inspired by a classic Lincoln Cosmopolitan Town Sedan with a remarkable history. The car originally belonged to Carl Eduard Bucherer, the son of our founder, Carl Friedrich Bucherer. It changed hands several times over the years. In 2013, however, Jörg G. Bucherer, Carl Eduard’s son, was able to buy the family car and have it restored to its original glory. The new watch, with color details inspired by the restored automobile, is a tribute to the Bucherer family, to a remarkable automobile, and to Carl F. Bucherer’s hometown of Lucerne.

Lasting Comfort and a Sustainable Strap

Several million metric tons of plastic waste end up in the oceans every year – an enormous threat to our ecosystem that necessitates a genuine rethink. Carl F. Bucherer is pointing the way in this regard with the new Patravi ScubaTec Black Manta Special Edition. The fabric used in the distinctive natural rubber strap, sewn in with bronze-colored contrast stitching, is composed entirely of recycled bottles recovered from the Mediterranean Sea. Around 30 bottles are processed into a firm yarn to produce the textile component in each strap. The fabrics are manufactured in Italy, which guarantees short transportation distances. As a result, each timepiece is not just a symbol of sustainability; it also makes an active contribution to the conservation of the oceans and the responsible use of our resources.
“Thanks to the kind support of Carl F. Bucherer, this year the Manta Trust will be able to launch an exciting, explorative research project to gain new insight into the movement patterns and behavior of manta rays in the Yucatán Peninsula. Increasing our understanding of this little-studied species will enable us to introduce more effective regional protection.”
Guy Stevens, CEO of Manta Trust

Treasuring Values – a Committed Partnership

Sustainability, tradition, excellence, and innovation: these are the pillars of Carl F. Bucherer’s corporate philosophy. The four values are actively put into practice – in watchmaking and when working together with long-standing, reliable partners. To this end, Carl F. Bucherer has worked with the Manta Trust, the UK-based charity, for more than seven years to help conserve the oceans and the habitats of manta rays. The new special edition is the second timepiece inspired by this cause. Its predecessor was the Patravi ScubaTec Manta Trust Limited Edition of just 188 watches launched in 2017. The previous version featured a different manta ray engraving on the back that transformed each item into a unique piece.

Bucherer BLUE

Carl F. Bucherer

Independence, tradition and innovation are part of the DNA of Carl F. Bucherer. The company remains faithful to the values of the Bucherer Group and its visionary founder, Carl Friedrich Bucherer, and refuses to just follow the latest trends. The Manero Peripheral created for the BLUE EDITIONS testifies to this philosophy and to the company’s exquisite craftsmanship: «The petrol blue dial was created especially for this model and is an intriguing contrast to the stainless steel case and the dark blue alligator leather strap. It is also a homage to the city of Lucerne, Switzerland, where we have our roots – and whose coat of arms contains the colour blue», says Renato Bonina, Managing Director Europe of Carl F. Bucherer.

CARL F. BUCHERER HERITAGE

Founded in 1888 Carl F. Bucherer believed that wrist watches would very soon replace the traditional pocket watches and so proved it's visionary and independent spirit.

Lucerne, Chapel Bridge.

The history and development of the Lucerne-based watch brand is closely linked to the person of Carl Friedrich Bucherer. A visionary who created timepieces that moved with the times, in the truest sense, always combining extravagance and aesthetic appeal in extraordinary ways. In 1888, Carl Friedrich Bucherer opened a jewelry and watch shop in Lucerne, and his name rapidly became a synonym for quality and originality. His two sons were destined from the cradle to follow him into the profession: one learned to become a watchmaker while the other trained as a goldsmith. Today, the combination of these two artistic skills is still reflected in the perfect form of watches, which are truly pieces of jewelry.
